Initially the Mahasabha was named as 'Jain Swetamber Terapanthi Sabha', but after the establishment of many Terapanthi Sabhas in different regions of the country, it was renamed as 'Jain Swetamber Terapanthi Mahasabha' on 30 January 1947.
